On Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at 10:00 a.m., two consumer advocates went to the scheduled Disability Network West Michigan Board Meeting at the Muskegon United Way Building. The United Way staff said that the room was scheduled for them and the Disability Network West Michigan staff reported that the Executive Director and Board were supposed to be there.
Advocates waited in a darkened room for over 45 minutes. No show. No contact. This is our publicly funded, tax exempt organization, which claims to value accountability.
Despite the state contract requirement to be generally open to the public, their Board Meeting was closed in October 2014; December 2014; and January 2015. $700,000 of federal and state tax payers’ dollars and to whom are they accountable?
